Patanjali Yoga Sutras
Legend says that Patanjali descended to Earth in the form of a snake, into his virgin mother, Gonika, herself a powerful yogini. He is generally depicted as half human and half serpent. His hands are blessing and greeting the ones who have approached him for yoga guidelines. He is the patron saint of dance. Some believe that he wrote a treatise on ayurvedic medicine. He is the Author of the Yoga Sutras.

Tolstoy believed that a man could find ever-lasting happiness striving for self-perfection following pacifism, loving one's neighbour, and God, rather than looking outward to the Church guidance.
He died only some days after he abandoned his family and wealth and taking the path of a wandering ascetic, at the age of 82.

What is a prayer? What is meditation?
According to St Teresa the prayer and meditation have 4 stages and the soul ascend towards God through:
- Devout contemplation or concentration
- The ‘prayer of quiet’ where the prevailing state is one of quietude
- The ‘devotion of union’, an ecstatic state of a blissful peace, a conscious rapture in the love of God
- The ‘devotion of ecstasy’ a peaceful state, in which the body consciousness disappears, sense activity ceases; and the body is literally lifted into space.
